AS THERE IS A CONSTANT FLOW OF LIGHT
Colin McCahon painted this work for his friend, the writer Maurice Shadbolt. They lived near each other in Titirangi in the 1950s and moved in the same artistic and literary circles in Auckland. McCahon painted the work on the front of Shadbolt's kitchen bench. Just as he used a range of materials, McCahon used quotes from various sources, including the Bible, in his paintings. This work includes a passage adapted from Shinran's songs to Amida Honen, a Japanese Buddhist text from the 1100s. McCahon used this text in several of his paintings. This premium quality art print has been produced on medium weight fine art stock using lightfast pigment based inks resulting in a sharp, vivid image with a high degree of color accuracy.
