THE PRINT

In a knowing nod to his own sudden popularity, Banksy hijacks a familiar image from another user-friendly commercial artist: Jack Vettriano. Sneered at by many in the art fraternity, Vettriano’s twee and pleasant prints are considered by some to be bland and vapid wall adornments that struggle to free themselves from their own uninspired malaise. In 'Crude Oil' Banksy remixes the popular Vettriano print Singing Butler by expertly diverting the situation to one on a beach stricken with spilled oil. Behind the dancing couple rescue crews struggle to contain the fallout of the environmental catastrophe while the insipid scene carries on regardless. By working with the very ‘found objects’ of commercial, unit-shifting fine art, Banksy is able to critique the inertia and absentmindedness that goes hand-in hand with the blasé following of fashion. Having first appeared in Banksy’s 2005 show 'Crude Oils' promoted as a gallery of re-mixed masterpieces, vandalism and vermin 'Crude Oil' marked a new direction for the artist; in which he discarded the spray can in favor of new mediums. This premium quality giclee art print has been produced on luxurious 100% cotton rag textured art paper using archival quality inks resulting in a superior print suitable for museum or gallery display.

  • Unframed art prints are placed between sheets of acid free tissue paper before being rolled in kraft paper and placed in a heavy-duty mailing tube. Tissue paper is placed at the ends to prevent movement in transit.
  • Framed artworks are encased in several layers of bubble wrap before being placed in our purpose-built heavy-duty cardboard boxes specifically designed to safeguard your artwork against damage while in transit.
