A truly beautiful and sophisticated design for the very first of all film festivals features an elegant lady and gentleman applauding. Unfortunately, due to the tense situation in Europe (on September 1, Hitler invaded Poland), the film festival was postponed, but Cannes never forgot, and re-scheduled it at the first opportunity - in 1946. They should have repeated Domergue's design as well. This high quality giclee art print reproduction of Jean-Gabriel Domergue's iconic advertising poster for the Cannes Film Festival has been expertly produced to capture the vivid colour and exceptional detail of the original image. It has been produced on high quality heavy weight archival paper using archival quality inks resulting in a superior print suitable for museum or gallery display.
Jean-Gabriel Domergue was a French painter who specailized in portraits of Parisian woman. Domergue invented a new type of woman: thin, airy, elegant, with a swanlike neck and wide seductive eyes which gaze upon the world with longing. "I invented the pin-up" he later claimed. He went on to paint approximately 3,000 portraits.
