Pop Motif was born from the simple belief that furnishing your home with stylish, gallery quality art shouldn’t be an unattainable luxury.

Our Story

It started with a first home and a lot of bare walls.

When my wife and I purchased our home back in 2012, we did what most new homeowners do: we went looking for some statement art that reflected our style to help make our house feel like a home.

This turned out to be easier said than done. It felt like we had to either splash out on expensive gallery pieces that we couldn’t justify (given a rather large new mortgage and a first baby on the way!) or settle for ordinary prints and generic frames.

Then one of my wife's friends put us on to an online art marketplace that looked promising. They offered a huge selection of artworks from independent artists that could be delivered to your door ready to hang.

"Amazing," I thought. "Problem solved."

Disposable Decor

Unfortunately, when the art arrived, the reality didn't match the promise.

The prints were produced on standard art paper and the colours were dull and lifeless. The frames were so brittle it felt like a small miracle they’d survived the journey intact.

Worse still, the art came with cheap perspex instead of glass, which was already starting to warp. It felt like disposable decor and there was no way they were going up on our walls.

Doing it Right, Here in NZ

Still, the concept stuck with me. It was such a great idea - if only it had been executed well. I was sure there must be others facing the same dilemma: Where can I find stylish, gallery-quality art that’s actually affordable?

Eventually, I decided to do it myself, do it right, and do it here in New Zealand.

In contrast to what I had experienced as a customer, I wanted to produce art that arrived looking even better than it did on screen. I am proud to say that this is the very thing our customers most often comment on when reviewing our art.

Over the last decade we’ve delivered over 60,000 artworks and helped more than 30,000 customers elevate their homes through art.

What started with a few bare walls in my own home has now grown into thousands of New Zealand homes filled with art.

And we're just getting started.
