The Artwork

In 1962, Hergé collaborated with the renowned French graphic artist Raymond Savignac to create this iconic advertising poster for Orange Soda. This piece represents a rare and historically significant intersection of the Ligne Claire (clear line) comic style and the avant-garde world of French commercial art.

Savignac, celebrated for his visual scandal technique, stripped away the complex backgrounds typical of Tintin adventures to focus entirely on the kinetic energy of the characters. By placing a joyous Tintin and a thirsty Snowy against a vibrant, minimalist backdrop, Savignac and Hergé created a work that serves as both a refreshing advertisement and a sophisticated piece of 1960s Pop Art.

The Artist

Raymond Savignac (1907–2002) was a highly influential French graphic artist and poster designer who defined the post-war era of whimsical and witty commercial art.

After working alongside the famed poster master A.M. Cassandre early in his career - Savignac developed a signature style characterised by its childlike simplicity, humour, and bold, flat colour. He believed in the power of the simple, striking image to communicate instantly - often using minimalist designs and hand-drawn text that felt playful and accessible.

Savignac rose to international fame after World War II with his iconic 1949 poster for the soap company Monsavon - which humorously depicted a cow washing itself in milk. His style was a welcome, optimistic contrast to the austerity of the post-war period. Over his long career, he created memorable campaigns for clients including Air France, Dunlop, and Cinzano, becoming one of the most beloved and instantly recognisable figures in French advertising design.

I've moved into a new house and was seeking a range of artwork for my blank walls. I purchased art from a number of different stores and Pop Motif has been the best by far - in terms of acknowledging the order (including by phone) and having the product arrive really quickly. I ordered artwork from multiple stores on the same day and Pop Motif's work all arrived within days (& great quality), and almost a week later I am still waiting for anything else to arrive, and some of the stores haven't event acknowledged the order.
