THE PRINT

The stylish young woman sprawled on the couch (exhausted no doubt from a rather large night out on the town!) in this 1899 painting by Catalan artist Ramon Casas is commonly referred to as "the young decadent". The Decadent movement was a late-19th-century artistic movement, centred in Western Europe, that followed an aesthetic ideology of excess and artificiality. It was characterised by a belief in the superiority of human fantasy and aesthetic hedonism over logic and the natural world. They no doubt knew how to throw a great party!

We adore the gorgeous colour palette (those greens!) and the lighthearted mood that this delightful artwork evokes. This versatile artwork works wonderfully in both mid-century vintage inspired interiors as well as those embracing a more modern minimalist aesthetic. We suggest utilising it as a feature artwork in the bedroom or living room.

This gallery quality giclée art print reproduction of the original painting has been produced on luxurious heavy weight art paper using archival quality inks resulting in a superior print with pin-sharp detail, rich vivid colours and unparalleled durability.

THE ARTIST

Ramon Casas (4 January 1866 – 29 February 1932) was a Catalan artist. Living through a turbulent time in the history of his native Barcelona, he was known as a portraitist, sketching and painting the intellectual, economic, and political elite of Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, and beyond. He was also known for his paintings of crowd scenes ranging from the audience at a bullfight to the assembly for an execution to rioters in the Barcelona streets. Also a graphic designer, his posters and postcards helped to define the Catalan art movement known as modernisme.
