THE PRINT
The Sakura (also known as the cherry blossom) is the national flower of Japan and represents a time of renewal and optimism. The blossoming of its pink flowers mark the ending of winter and signify the beginning of spring. In this beautiful artwork by Dunedin based artist Frank Gordon a selection of iconic New Zealand native birds are nestled amidst the pink flowers of the cherry blossom tree. We adore the pink and teal colour palette that Gordon employs in Sakura. This versatile artwork can be displayed anywhere in the home though we particularly love utilising it as a feature artwork in the bedroom.

THE ARTIST
Frank Gordon has painted most of his life. He is largely self-taught and lists his major influences as Bruegel, Bosch, Glasgow artist Peter Howson and New Zealand artist, Michael Smither. There is usually an element of humour in his work with colourful characters engaging in their own mini dramas. As a trained psychiatric nurse, and working daily with people that have experienced mental health problems, Frank’s life is as colourful as his paintings. He tries to explore and express on canvas the story of people, the highs and lows, the dreams, quirks and absurdities of being human.
“I like to produce paintings that present a situation whether it is unusual, fanciful or a step beyond reality. There is usually an element of humour in my work. I don’t consciously set out to achieve this, it just seems to evolve with the process. Sometimes it is more subtle than others which are obviously a little bit quirky or even downright slapstick.”

PACKAGING
- Unframed art prints are placed between sheets of acid free tissue paper before being rolled in kraft paper and placed in a heavy duty mailing tube. Tissue paper is placed at the ends to prevent movement during transit.
- Framed artworks are encased in several layers of bubble wrap before being placed in our purpose-built heavy duty cardboard boxes specifically designed to safeguard your artwork against damage while in transit.
PAYMENT
We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. You can also checkout using Paypal. If you are based in New Zealand or Australia you also have the option to pay using Afterpay. When checking out your order will be processed in NZD (New Zealand Dollars).
RETURNS
